Criminal Defense Legal Assistant

Vantage Legal Services is recruiting a full-time Legal Assistant for a small criminal defense law firm in Marietta, Georgia. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a small firm environment, interacting directly with clients, and keeping a busy legal practice organized and running efficiently.

The firm consists of one attorney and one legal assistant. Because the attorney is frequently in court, the Legal Assistant plays an important role in managing the day-to-day operations of the office and communicating with clients.

The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, comfortable working independently, and able to stay on top of multiple deadlines, appointments, and court dates.

• Communicate with current and prospective clients
• Conduct initial client intake
• Schedule appointments and maintain the attorney’s calendar
• Notify clients of court dates, appointments, and other important case information
• Electronically file documents in Georgia Courts
• Download, organize, and maintain discovery and case documents
• Maintain electronic client files
• Prepare client agreements and assist with processing payments
• Assist with billing and general office administration
• Coordinate the attorney’s court schedule and related logistics
• Perform other administrative and legal support tasks as needed

• Prior experience working in a law firm is preferred
• Criminal defense experience is a plus
• Familiarity with Georgia court filings and electronic filing systems is strongly preferred
• Strong organizational and calendaring skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable communicating directly with clients
• Ability to work independently and take initiative
• Strong attention to detail and follow-through
• Comfortable working in a small office environment
• Experience with MyCase or similar case management software is a plus

• $20.00-$23.00 per hour
• Full-time, Monday–Friday
• In-office position in Marietta
• 1099 contractor position
• Paid holidays and paid time off
